Dr Aleksandar Mitić

Research Fellow

Aleksandar Mitić is Research Fellow at the Center for the “Belt and Road” studies.

He obtained his Bachelor in Journalism and Political Science from Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada), and his MA in International Affairs in 1997 from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University. He defended his PhD thesis “Integration of Online Media Techniques in Strategic Communication Projects” at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Belgrade in 2016.

From 1999-2005, Aleksandar was permanent correspondent of Agence France-Presse (AFP) from Kosovo and Metohija (during the NATO bombings) and from Belgrade. From 2005-2009, he was permanent correspondent of the Tanjug News Agency from the EU and NATO headquarters in Brussels.

He lectured at the Faculty of Political Science (2003-2005), and participated in numerous conferences, roundtables and debates in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Netherlands, Switzerland, France, USA, Russia, China, Austria, Italy and Poland.

In 2005, Aleksandar was one of the founders of the Institute 4S in Brussels, where he prepared and led the Kosovo Compromise project, Serbia’s first strategic communication project aimed the European Union (2006-2008).

From 2010-2014, he was a member of the Executive Board and Editor of the Fund Slobodan Jovanović.

Also in 2010, he founded the Center for Strategic Alternatives, which in 2016 became a founding member of the China-CEEC High-Level Academic Platform.

He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Center for Russian Studies at the Faculty of Political Science.

He published numerous works, among others published by the Institute for International Politics and Economics, the Institute for Political Studies, the China-CEE Institute and Routledge.

He published articles, and as analyst provided commentary, to numerous Serbian and international media – among others „Politika“, „New York Times”, “European Voice” and “China Daily”.

His particular field of interest in recent years has been the use of strategic communication in international relations, as well as the narratives of integration projects.

He speaks French and English.
