Research Fellow
Since 2024, as a Research Fellow Slobodan Popović is employed at the Institute of International Politics and Economics and the Regional Centre “Belt and Road”. Prior to this, he was working at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade. Since 2023, Dr. Slobodan Popović provides expert consultation to the Oriental Business and Innovation Centre and Budapest Business University in Budapest in making their cooperation with universities from China. His scientific research in finding pattern of China’s foreign policy behaviour is based on the theories of diplomacy, security, geopolitics, and indirectly on geoeconomics.
His PhD Studies Slobodan Popović completed at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade. The title of his PhD Thesis was “The Role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Geopolitical and Geoeconomic Positioning of the PR China”. One part, i.e. theoretical framework of the PhD Dissertation, Slobodan pursued at the La Sapienza University, Rome, as the winner of the scholarship of the Government of the Republic of Italy. During his stay in Rome of six months duration, Slobodan actively participated in lectures on the subject of Geopolitics run by Full PhD Professor Edoardo Boria. Besides this, he was winner of the prestigious scholarship Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship. In 2016, Slobodan was invited by Embassy of the PR China in Belgrade to participate in Gansu Fellowship International Program when his report Reinforcing Diplomacy of Asian Dragon was announced for the best by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PR China-Department for Gansu Province.
His more than one decade long experience of pursuing analysis on China resulted in number of published papers on China, and organizing and participating scientific conferences, round tables and other scientific events that tackled China from different aspects. Slobodan is fluent in English, Italian and speaks Chinese.
