Organized by the Institute of International Politics and Economics and the Institute of Historical Sciences of the University of East Sarajevo, an international scientific conference was held in Nevesinje and Trebinje under the title “150 years since the Herzegovina Uprising: impact on regional security and European geopolitics”.

The conference was opened by the Minister of Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education of the Republika Srpska, Dr. Željko Budimir, Director of the IIPE, Prof. Dr. Branislav Đorđević, Director of the Institute of Historical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Draga Mastilović, and Mayor of the Municipality of Nevesinje, Milenko Avdalović.

Dedicated to the “Nevesinje Uprising”, one of the key events in the history of the Serb nation, the consequences of which had long-term consequences for the change in the international order in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the conference brought together academic researchers from Great Britain, France, Romania, the Russian Federation, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, North Macedonia, Montenegro, the Republic of Serbia and the Republika Srpska.

After the introductory presentations, dedicated to geopolitical changes and the work of Risto Proroković Nevesinjac, three panels were held where the participants spoke about the “Nevesinje Uprising” itself, its historical consequences, but also parallels with the current international order.

Among the participants were the member of the IIPE International Advisory Board Prof. Dr. Richard Sakwa (University of Kent), as well as IIPE researchers Dr. Dušan Proroković, Dr. Aleksandar Mitić and Mile Obrenović, MA.
