For the fifth consecutive year, Institute of International Politics and Economics, together with the Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade held an annual round table discussion dedicated to the study of geopolitics and strategic studies. This year, the thematic focus lied on the geopolitics of small states – often forgotten, but very important actors in the international arena. The event was formally opened with introductory remarks given by Ivona Lađevac, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Politics and Economics and Professor Miroslav Mladenović, Vice-dean of the Faculty of Security Studies.

Through four thematic panels, researchers from eight different institutions presented conceptual, theoretical and empirical evidence on geopolitics of small states. The special focus of nearly all presentations was on the conceptual vagueness of the term small states, as well as efforts to understand best practices in small state strategies which countries have taken in order to achieve security and prosperity in contemporary geopolitical circumstances. Concluding remarks were given by Professor Vladimir Ajzenhamer from the Faculty of Security Studies.
