Dr. Nenad Stekić, Senior Research Fellow, and Dr. Nevena Šekarić Stojanović, Research Fellow at the Institute of International Politics and Economics, participated in the fourth national scientific conference “Urban Security and Urban Development”, held on 6 July 2026. The conference was jointly organized by the Faculty of Security Studies and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade.
The conference was officially opened by Prof. Mladen Milošević, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Security Studies, Prof. Jelena Ristić Trajković, PhD, Vice Dean for Research and Cooperation at the Faculty of Architecture, Prof. Vladan Đokić, PhD, Rector of the University of Belgrade, as well as Prof. Svetlana Stanarević, PhD, and Prof. Aleksandra Đukić, PhD, on behalf of the Conference Organizing Committee.
Dr. Nenad Stekić presented a paper entitled “Between Autonomy and the State: Chinese Smart Cities and the Transformation of Subnational Diplomacy”, in which he analyzed the possibilities for agency in international relations of the Chinese megacities of Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen.
Dr. Nevena Šekarić Stojanović presented her paper entitled “Reconfiguring Cities in the Age of Energy Transition”. In her presentation, she examined how the process of the energy transition is reshaping urban practices and influencing urban planning and the design of the environment.
