Senior Research Fellow at the Institute, Dr. Dušan Proroković, participated in an online roundtable “The Concept of Eurasian Security: Possibilities of Implementation in the Balkan Region” on 22 June organized in Moscow by the Russian Foreign Affairs Council and the Rossiya Segodnya International News Agency. In connection with the topic, the Russian International Affairs Council published a report, which was presented during the roundtable discussion.
In addition to Dr. Dušan Proroković, the participants included: Dmitri Trenin, President of the Russian International Affairs Council; Polina Sokolova, Research Fellow at the Department of European Political Studies, Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Russian Academy of Sciences; Milan Lazović, Balkanist and Program Manager at the Russian International Affairs Council; and Tatyana Popadyeva, Research Fellow at the Center for Comparative Socioeconomic and Political Research, Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Russian Academy of Sciences, and Associate Professor at the Department of Languages of Central and Southeastern Europe, MGIMO University.
Dr. Proroković discussed the limitations of applying the concept of Eurasian security in the Balkans, highlighting the complexity of existing geopolitical relations and the numerous challenges within the current regional security architecture. He particularly pointed to inconsistencies arising from the existing security mechanisms established within the Euro-Atlantic paradigm.
