Dr. Miloš Petrović, IIPE Senior Research Fellow, participated in the organization and implementation of the conference entitled “European Union Enlargement in a Period of Intensified Geopolitical Challenges: ‘Fresh Momentum’ (and Beyond)”. The conference was held at the Institute of European Studies (IES) on 15 and 16 June. The event featured ten panels, including opening addresses by representatives of the IES and the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand).
Dr. Petrović contributed to the organization of the conference and its preparatory activities as a member of the Organizing and Programme Committee. In addition, the IIPE researcher moderated the keynote panel “The European Union and the Western Balkans”, featuring presentations by Prof. Dr. Emilian Kavalski of Tampere University (Finland) and Prof. Dr. Biljana Vankovska of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (North Macedonia).
Dr. Petrović also delivered a presentation within the panel “The Western Balkans in the European Union: Myth or Reality?”, where he addressed the challenges faced by certain candidate countries in meeting the Copenhagen criteria, the EU’s insufficient preparedness for a broader enlargement cycle, as well as the preparations for the completion of Montenegro’s accession process and its regional implications.
The conference brought together more than thirty panelists from academic and other institutions in Serbia, New Zealand, Finland, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, and several other countries.
