Senior Research Fellow of the Institute, Dr. Vladimir Trapara, finished his 7.5-month study visit as a Fulbright grantee at Austin Peay State University (APSU) in Clarksville (Tennessee, USA). His formal host was APSU’s Institute for National Security and Military Studies (INSMS), headed by Dr. Richard Mifsud.
Trapara’s study visit consisted of a research and a teaching component. Research component involved work on the project “Understanding relations in the U.S.-Serbia-Russia relations”. The results of the project are three scientific papers in the publication procedure, dealing with the issues of Serbian-Russian relations, theoretical perspectives on U.S.-Russian relations development, as well as current changes in U.S. foreign policy. Teaching component encompassed one-semester course of International Diplomacy (National Security Studies program) at APSU’s College of Behavioral and Health Sciences (Department of Criminal Justice), with an emphasis on regional security and diplomacy in the Balkans. The course was preceded by an open lecture for APSU students and faculty on the current socio-political crisis in Serbia and the prospects of U.S.-Serbian relations.
Throughout his visit, Trapara actively participated in the work of INSMS and the Department of Criminal Justice. He also organized a visit by H.E. Dragan Šutanovac, Serbian Ambassador to Washington, D.C., to APSU. On that occasion, the Ambassador delivered a lecture for students and faculty on the current state of U.S.–Serbian relations and met with representatives of the Serbian community in nearby Nashville.
During his study visit, Dr. Trapara participated in the annual International Studies Association (ISA) convention in Columbus, Ohio. After his study visit, Dr. Trapara continues to contribute to deepening of the institutional cooperation between the IIPE and APSU/INSMS, as well as to strengthening of the academic exchange and advancement of U.S.-Serbian relations.
