The Institute of International Politics and Economics, in cooperation with the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Security Studies, the Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), and Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, Tennessee, USA), organised an international academic conference titled “Squaring the Circle: New Global Dynamics” on 20th and 21st May.
The opening ceremony was held on 20th May at the Institute’s premises. In addition to the acting director Asst. Prof. Dr. Gordana Mišev, the participants were addressed by Prof. Dr. Miroslav Mladenović, on behalf of the Dean’s Board of the Faculty of Security, University of Belgrade, Prof. Dr. Paolo Selari from the Sapienza University of Rome, Dr. Richard Mifsud from Austin Peay State University, and Dr. Ivona Lađevac, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute, on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the conference. On this occasion, the broader academic and practical significance of studying systemic, strategic, and institutional factors in understanding contemporary global dynamics was emphasized. Furthermore, the importance of deepening existing and strengthening new forms of cooperation between partner institutions was recognized.
The conference brought together researchers and experts from ten countries, who examined key challenges in contemporary international relations, international security, the global economics, energy transition, technological development, and global governance across three working panels. Particular focus was placed on the transformation of the world order amid growing geopolitical fragmentation, the rise of multipolarity, and intensifying great-power competition, as well as the position of small states in today’s international environment.
