The Acting Director of the Institute of International Politics and Economics, Asst. Prof. Dr. Gordana Mišev, received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Mr. Mohammad Sadegh Fazli, on an official visit.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Director, Prof. Dr. Mihajlo Vučić, and the Head of the Centre for Neighbourhood and the Mediterranean, Dr. Slobodan Janković, as representatives of the Institute.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Fazli extended his congratulations to the Director on her appointment as head of the Institute.

In introductory remarks, Director Mišev thanked the Ambassador both for his congratulations and for finding the time, amid a busy schedule, to visit IIPE. She reflected on the long and rich history of diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Tehran, as well as the ongoing development of scientific cooperation with partner institutions in Iran. She reaffirmed a strong commitment to further advancing all forms of scientific cooperation. The Director noted that the Institute is among the oldest research institutes in the field of International Relations in Europe, and that the expertise of its researchers is well recognized both regionally and beyond.

Ambassador Fazli expressed his readiness to support cooperation between Iranian and Serbian research institutions and projects of mutual interest. Director Mišev also expressed her appreciation for the consistent and principled position of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia.

Both sides offered a comprehensive assessment of the political, legal and economic dimensions of the ongoing crisis affecting the Middle East, or Western Asia, and its potential consequences at the regional and global level. Ambassador Fazli expressed hope for continued and fruitful cooperation, pointing to the strong political relations between the two countries. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran regards the Republic of Serbia as a friendly nation bound to it by deep historical ties, and that Tehran’s position on Kosovo and Metohija remains principled and unchanged.

The meeting concluded with a review of the current state of bilateral relations, the present situation in the Persian Gulf, and potential directions for advancing scientific cooperation at all levels.
