Within the framework of the Ambassadorial Forum of the Institute of International Politics and Economics, H.E. Mr. Syed Faraz Hussain Zaidi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Serbia, delivered a lecture titled “Pakistan at a Strategic Crossroads: Repositioning in a Fragmented Order.”

The presentation addressed the broader context of socio-demographic, geo-economic, and foreign policy processes shaping Pakistan’s position in contemporary international relations. In this regard, discussions covered relations with key international partners, issues of economic development and security, as well as Pakistan’s role in regional and broader international dynamics.

Particular attention was devoted to the challenges of strategic positioning faced by states located at geopolitical crossroads amid the increasing fragmentation of the international order. Broader trends indicating a gradual transition from a period of relative stability—characterized by a high level of economic interdependence and well-developed multilateral cooperation mechanisms—toward a more complex and uncertain international environment were also addressed. This evolving context is marked by intensified geo-economic and technological competition, as well as changes in the functioning of global institutions.

In this context, the importance of strengthening economic and institutional capacities, enhancing international connectivity, and carefully calibrating strategic positioning in the emerging international order was also considered.

The lecture was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the academic community, researchers, and participants of the Institute of International Politics and Economics’ Winter School.

The event was held under the Chatham House Rule.
