H.E. Mr. Slobodan Šešum, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Serbia, delivered a lecture entitled “Slovenian Foreign Policy: The Intertwining of World Bee Day, Economic Diplomacy and Membership in the UN Security Council” as part of the Institute of International Politics and Economics’ distinguished “Ambassadors’ Forum”.
Ambassador Šešum reflected on Slovenia’s role on the international stage, noting how a small country with a compact diplomatic network can have a meaningful impact and influence global processes. In addition, he underscored Slovenia’s firm commitment to the environment, recalling that Slovenia was the first country in the world to receive recognition as a Green Destination of the World. In this context, he reflected on the Slovenian initiative of UN World Bee Day and emphasised the importance of raising awareness about nature and environmental protection. Furthermore, he emphasised the significance of women’s empowerment as a defining feature of Slovenia’s societal and economic development.
The Ambassador also reflected on Slovenia’s role as a member of the UN Security Council and underscored the country’s commitment to principled foreign policy, guided by the UN Charter, international law, humanitarian law, and human rights law. He also underlined Slovenia’s role as a bridge between large and small countries, reinforcing its commitment to peace, security, sustainable development, and responsible international collaboration. The Ambassador further stressed the importance of economic and scientific diplomacy for small countries and noted the importance of Slovenia’s cooperation with Serbia, particularly in green development, innovation, and projects aimed at supporting women’s economic empowerment.
The lecture was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, the academic community, and researchers from the Institute.
