Institute of International Politics and Economics, Centre for Eurasian Studies, organized a webinar with international participation: “New security climate in the Artic: melting the ice – freezing the cooperation?”

Speakers from Russia, United Kingdom, Finland and Serbia analyzed the importance of the Arctic region in the economic, political, security and environmental contexts. The conclusions were that the Arctic would play an increasingly important role in the future, both due to huge fossil resources and geopolitical reasons. Also, China has started to project its power on the Arctic, although it is not essentially an Arctic state.

The discussion was fruitful, and the questions mainly concerned the future moves of Russia and China in the growing global tensions caused by the crisis in Ukraine.
